Fish Population Electrofishing Surveys

ECA uses an electrofishing boat, the most sophisticated and professional fish collecting equipment available today, to sample fish without harming them. These fish are identified, counted, weighed and analyzed to determine if the sportfish population is "balanced". Unbalanced ponds may result from fish kills, incorrect stocking ratios, water quality, harvesting too many fish, or any combination of these factors.

ECA will survey fish populations and water quality to determine what management strategies are necessary to revitalize and maximize it's potential. A professional report will outline the status of your pond or lake and list recommendations to guarantee better fishing.

Our annual follow-up surveys will measure the progress of your fish management program. Whether it's trophy bass, one pound bluegill, or plenty of catfish, ECA can provide you with the professional expertise to meet your expectations.

Aquatic Weed & Algae Control

Management of aquatic weeds is important to the productivity of your pond or lake. If left alone during the warm weather, aquatic plants can grow out of control and interfere with fishing and boating. Small ponds do not need any plants, while larger sized waters (> 10 acres) may want 20% plants along the shore to provide cover and spawning areas.

We specialize in controlling aquatic plants and algae without harming sportfish or wildlife. With the judicious use of approved herbicides and triploid grass carp (weed-eating fish), ECA can control unwanted weeds and improve the recreational use of your pond. The integrated approach of triploid grass carp and herbicides will provide short and long term control of weeds in any commercial, private or recreational waters. Annual inspections and maintenance applications can usually prevent weed problems from returning.

Sweeney Fish Feeders

Supplemental feeding can increase your fish population by 300%. Feeding pellets can increase the capacity of your pond to 1,000 pounds of fish per acre. Fish can be trained to eat pellets by consistently feeding them at the same time and place each day. Sweeney automatic feeders affords you the luxury of leaving town for extended periods of time without having to feed your fish. Feeding fish will increase the numbers and size of fish you and your guests can catch each trip.

ECA is a certified Sweeney dealer for the Florida, Alabama and Georgia tri-state area. We provide the best prices for the most reliable fish and wildlife feeders in the world. Equipped with solar panels and automatic timers which allow up to 48 feedings per day, the AF1100 Directional Feeders can be easily refilled from the shoreline every 2-3 weeks. The feed is dispensed in a rectangular pattern 20 ft. wide × 45 ft. long. A 12-volt battery is included.

Aeration Systems

Aeration systems can improve oxygen and water quality in your pond or lake and eliminate fish kills. Our cost effective system uses small low pressure maintenance free compressors, airlines and stone diffusors to circulate water from the bottom out of the lake to the surface. These air bubbles expand, spread out, and rise to the surface to reduce stratification. Dissolved harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and ammonia are released at the surface, while oxygen is absorbed.

ECA is an Aquatic Eco-Systems dealer for the Florida, Alabama and Georgia tri-state area. More than 100,000 acres of water in small ponds and lakes use the Aquatic Eco-System Synergistic Diffusers to aerate their waters and improve water quality.

Fish Stocking

Stocking fish is one of the most popular management tools fisheries biologists have to improve fishing in your pond. However, indiscriminate stocking can be a waste of time and money. If your fish population is unbalanced, then stocking the wrong species and size of fish may enhance the problem. ECA can analyze your fish population and implement the necessary fish stocking program to meet your desires.

Sportfish commonly stocked in the southeast include Florida largemouth bass, sunshine bass, bluegill, shellcracker or redear sunfish, and channel catfish. Sometimes bait fish such as shiners, minnows or shad are needed to supplement the natural food chain in your pond or lake to grow trophy sized bass quickly. Ponds with aquatic vegetation problems can be stocked with triploid grass carp to control or eliminate weeds. We can provide information on required government permits, appropriate stocking numbers, and size of fish for your pond. Cost of fish is based on seasonal availability, supply and demand at hatcheries.

Pond Design

A well-designed pond or lake is the most important step a pond owner can do before the first dirt is moved. Once the objectives are defined, the location, size, and shape of the pond, water source, and fish species for stocking should be determined. With the proper and professional pond or lake design, future problems with aquatic weed expansion, flood control and fishing access can be avoided with the correct shoreline slopes, bottom contour lines, and structure placement.

ECA will provide you with a professional contour map with proper depths for the species you select and strategically placed fish feeders, rock piles, sand areas, fishing fingers, docks, and fish attractors to insure successful fishing trips for you and your invited guests.
